Boom prompts big purchase

Electrician Caet Wessling looked for five months before purchasing a home in Boyne Island.

CAET Wessling can't wait to move into her newly purchased Boyne Island home next month.

The 23-year-old electrician started looking last September.

She went through at least 30 houses before deciding on the three-bedroom house (pictured).

"A lot of them, you wouldn't even bother with," Ms Wessling said.

"Mine's in pretty good condition but I'll do up my kitchen and bathroom."

The house cost Ms Wessling $430,000.

She saved a $25,000 deposit.

"There wasn't much under $450,000," she said.

Several factors spurred her decision to buy.

"I'd been paying rent and living in share houses.

"I earn enough, so I thought, 'Why not?'"

Ms Wessling plans to get boarders in to help cover her mortgage payments.

"That'll make it easier."

She said the responsibility of making such a large investment was "pretty scary".

"In the long run it'll pay off, though."

Ms Wessling's glad she bit the bullet and bought now.

"Everything's booming at the moment," she said.
