LEWIS Marshall, 52, went into this week's Cycling Queensland Cyclist of the Year Awards in Brisbane feeling pretty confident.

With an Australian Title win behind him, the cyclist liked his chances.

And he had every reason to. Marshall was awarded senior road cyclist of the year at the annual gala.

"I'm proud. It's recognition of all of the effort I've put in.

"There's a lot of commitment involved.

"I have to travel all the time and I'm always back and forth to Rocky for training."

Marshall told The Observer while travelling to yet another competition, this time in Townsville.

Marshall juggles riding competitively with his job at the Department of Environment and Resource Management in Gladstone.
