Energy Skills Queensland has opened an office in Gladstone.

In response to the rapid growth of the coal seam gas/liquefied natural gas industry and urgent skilling needs, Energy Skills Queensland opened an office in Gladstone yesterday.

The project aims to address skills shortages in the Gladstone region by developing a strategy that aims to create long term sustainable employment opportunities.

Energy Skills Queensland CEO Glenn Porter said the Gladstone Workforce Skilling Strategy will develop a coordinated approach to workforce planning and development, and skill formation for the energy industry in Queensland.

“Energy Skills Queensland’s role is to provide targeted strategies to government and industry to address skills shortages arising from an ageing worker population, increased skill demand and new skills requirements,” Mr Porter said.

“Gladstone is centre stage for LNG in Queensland and Energy Skills Queensland’s new office and project team aim to ensure locals are trained to take up jobs as they come on-line and employers get the skilled workers they need.

“We aim to provide leadership and essential advice to industry and training organizations to further develop skilling and training outcomes that meet the changing demands for skills,” Mr Porter said.

Energy Skills Queensland will share office space with the Gladstone Engineering Alliance at 1/66 Goondoon Street, Gladstone and can be reached on 07 4972 9060.
