GLADSTONE is blessed with many beaches close by, so it is only natural that surfing, water sports and swimming were the priorities for children on the to-do list this summer.

With SUNfest nearing the end, there is still plenty to be done before school resumes on Monday.

Today will be nothing but sun, sand and surf in Agnes Water as children learn to surf from talented instructor Grom Mellick at Agnes beach.

Grom is a legend of the surf and owns Reef2Beach in Agnes and knows everything there is to know about surfing.

As part of the many regional SUNfest activities, children will be able to learn the basics of surfing in a two-hour intensive lesson.

An all-day event, children will leave at 8am from Gladstone and have the choice of learning to surf and kite-surf or kayak and kite-surf.

The event is restricted to children aged between 12 and 17.

Everyone is reminded to take along sun-smart clothing, a water bottle, sunscreen, hat and morning tea.

A barbecue lunch will be provided at the beach and it is set to be a great day out for all involved.

Tickets are $25 each and are available from www.gladstone.aticket.com.au.

Parents are reminded to get in early and book as all events are selling out fast.
