Two grey nomads were lucky to escape injury when the wheels came off their caravan on the Bruce Highway, 8km north of Marmor.
A VICTORIAN husband and wife, on their way home after three months in Bowen, were lucky to escape serious injury after the wheels snapped off their caravan on the Bruce Highway yesterday.
David and Vivianne New were on their way to Howard when the wheels and axle snapped about eight kilometres north of Marmor at 9am.
“It was pretty hairy,” the shaken driver said.
“It was bucking around back there like a bucking bronco.”
The couple was travelling at 85kmh when they heard a loud bang and saw lots of smoke.
Three cars following pulled over to help. One driver told David the caravan leapt into the air and bounced around dramatically.
Marmor police attended the scene and a truck towed the caravan back to Gladstone.
