Honours galore for gym stars

GLADSTONE gymnasts have come away with their fair share of honours at the second annual Harbour City Invitational.

Almost 100 gymnasts from four regional clubs competed at the Gladstone Gymnastic Club-hosted event on Sunday.

In the first regional gymnastic competition for 2010, gymnasts competed in men’s and women’s divisions.

Gladstone Gymnastic Club continued its good standing in the region, taking out four overall firsts from a possible six in the women’s division. Competition directors Anna Turetschek and David Capill were impressed with the high standard of the women’s events so early in the season.

“Many clubs presented higher difficulty and amplitude and this prompted a hard-fought competition which forecasts well for the coming competitive season,” Turetschek said.

Gladstone gymnasts’ results:

Level 3 Michele Leuci – second all round, Joshua Hurst – third all round.

Level 2 Cooper Maitland – first floor, rings, parallel bars, first all round, Mitchell Smith – first pommel, vault, high bar, second all round.

Level 5 Adam Parker – first floor, rings, parallel bars, vault, pommel, high bar, first all round.
