Brian Travers (Manager, Barbarians), Pat Laws (President, Boyne Tannum HookUp) and Rod Spice (President, Barbarians), hand over one of the nine flat screen televisions donated to the Gladstone Hospital to Helen Streeter-Smith (Maternity Models of Care Project Officer) and Wendy Woodward (NUM Ward 1).
THE Capricornia Barbarians Australian Rules side has shown its charitable side, donating nine televisions to the Gladstone Base Hospital.
The masters AFL team has been raising money for the televisions after the child of a team mate spent some time in hospital.
“The family was hanging around in the hospital and there weren’t any televisions or anything,” Muller said. “We started talking about it at training so we went back to the hospital and asked them if they were interested.”
The team as a group decided to raise money for the televisions and received a welcome boost from the Boyne Tannum HookUp committee to add to their cause.
Barbarians treasurer David Muller said they donated the televisions and mounting brackets as a way of helping relieve the boredom of patients and parents while in hospital.
The club has also raised money this year for the fire-devastated community of Kinglake after the Black Saturday bushfires.
Barbarians hold training each Monday (Boyne Island) and Wednesday (Clinton) all year round for over 35s and always welcome new players.
A social inter-club match will be held on December 4 and the club is hoping to play another match against Hervey Bay in March.
