Partners in heart attack

A PASSIONATE love triangle spilled over in front of shocked staff at the Gladstone Centrelink office earlier this week.

A Gladstone police spokesman told The Observer police were called to Centrelink on Monday after a fight broke out when a woman and her partner randomly bumped into her ex-boyfriend near the office.

“A stoush broke out; apparently the ex-boyfriend was not happy to see the new boyfriend – it’s a bit of love triangle,” the spokesman said.

The incident occurred about 1pm, he said. The spokesman was unsure whether any of the three people were injured in the assault.

Police were still investigating and charges may still be laid, depending on whether the new boyfriend made a complaint, he said.

Centrelink general manager Hank Jongen confirmed yesterday that Centrelink staff had called police after two people sought refuge in the Gladstone office on an unrelated matter.

“The incident yesterday is the subject of a police inquiry and therefore it’s not appropriate for Centrelink to comment further on the matter,” Mr Jongen said in a statement.

“The safety of our staff and customers is of paramount concern to Centrelink and we ensure customers who visit our offices can do their business in a friendly and safe environment,” he said.
