Champs given help for diabetes

FEDERAL Member for Flynn Chris Trevor caught up with Gladstone’s own and very young Diabetes Ambassador Ethan Galpin, who took the opportunity to teach Mr Trevor more about his type 1 diabetes.

“I think little Ethan and the kids here today are very brave little champs,” Mr Trevor said.

“I’m glad that they could give me a first-hand insight into what daily life is like for kids with type 1 diabetes and families. We hear a lot about diabetes but all too often this information is about type 2 diabetes.

“As Ethan will tell you, type 1 diabetes is completely different and requires daily insulin injections and finger blood tests just to survive.

“The Rudd Government is committed to helping families like Ethan’s who live with type 1 diabetes.

“We have recently joined forces with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to deliver government-subsidised insulin pumps for children to give them a better start.”

Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disease that is not caused by diet or lifestyle and cannot be prevented.
