“DODGE, duck, dip, dive and ....dodge,” are five Ds that you must master if you want to be successful in dodgeball.
That is according to seven-time ADAA (American Dodgeball Association of America) all-star Patches O’Houlihan in the 2004 comedy movie Dodgeball anyway.
Yaralla Port City Power will host another Dodgeball Classic on November 21 as contestants compete for the $500 prize.
Teams are encouraged to get into the spirit of the fancy dress theme and players must be 13 years or older.
O’Houlihan said “dodgeball is a sport of violence, exclusion and degradation,” and suggested picking your larger, stronger friends in your team to help you pick on the smaller, weaker players.
Competition will commence in Kev Broome Stadium at 12pm and run through till roughly 5pm.
A minimum of six players is needed per team and a bar, barbecue and canteen will operate during the event.
Event organiser Blair Smith said the rules are just like those in the movie.
“The idea is to throw the ball at the opposition, if you hit them they are out, if they catch it you are out and one of their team comes back on,” he said.
“Last player standing wins.”
Entry fee is $50 for a team and registrations close on Friday April 3rd. Registration forms can be downloaded from www.my.sportingpulse.com/gladstoneportcitypower.
