Work on stage two of Gladstone's airport runway construction is about to get under way.
GLADSTONE'S airport runway construction is about to enter stage two.
It involves work on the critical central runway section, which was due to begin yesterday and is expected to run until about mid-August.
Gladstone Regional Council chief executive officer Graeme Kanofski said the stage involved a 12-hour night work construction window, and he said QantasLink had already altered the Q400 flight schedules to operate aircraft around construction hours between 7.15am and 7.15pm.
“It was anticipated that this work would start earlier so QantasLink have already commenced the new flight timetables to suit these works,” he said.
“As such the altered flight schedules will remain and continue until stage two works are expected to conclude, which is August 17.
“Council and QantasLink are in regular consultation to ensure minimal impact on operations and travelling public during this significant reconstruction project.”
Mr Kanofski said council was extremely pleased that stage one work was without and was on track for successful completion about mid-August.
“Golding is now focused on commencing excavation work for the Briffney Creek culvert, and preparatory works on the Callemondah Drive diversion road, which will involve construction of a rail overpass bridge and road works connection to the existing Police Creek Roundabout, are also well under way.”
