UNIONS will take their message to the streets tomorrow to protest the Bligh Government's decision to sell state owned assets.

Benaraby-based Australian Metal Workers' Union state organiser Phil Golby said the community rally would be an extension of the protests held during the week.

“It's about involving the wider community,” Mr Golby said.

“A lot of people couldn't make the rally on Tuesday.”

Mr Golby said the rally will show the wider community's “displeasure”.

“The Government thinks it's doing the right thing in these tough times for public jobs but all it will be doing is providing a short-term gain for a long-term pain,” he said.

He said if the Government wanted support from the unions, the public sector and the wider community, then it had to “look after the ordinary person”.

The union organiser said although he already expected the march would draw significant crowds, extra support was welcome as the “more the merrier”.

Mr Golby said the march would begin at 9am at the QRI Hall in Off Lane before continuing up Tank Street and ending at ANZAC Park.

“It will be a peaceful march to let the Government know how we feel,” he said.

“There will be some speeches at the end of the march to let the public know what it all means, but the main focus will be on the march.

“Bring you placards and let the Government know Queensland is not for sale.”

There will also be petitions to sign at the event.
