Jets smash through CQ

THE Central Queenland Personal Water Craft Club has been at it again, blasting through the waters of the CQ all in the name of a good time.

The members of the new club started by Gladstone residents Brett Harris, recently rallied at Rosslyn Bay Marina for a trip around the picturesque Great Keppel Island.

Nine skis took part in the escapade, four of whom were from Boyne/Tannum/Gladstone and five from Yeppoon Rocky.

Club pesident Harris said they headed out for a leisurely cruise to Keppel.

“The breeze that was blowing made it difficult to beach near the old resort, so we cruised around to a more sheltered beach where the kids could play on the white sandy beach and we could beach the skis without them copping a battering from swell.”

Harris said they stayed there for a while, then headed off again, detouring to have a look at a camp spot on Halfway Island.

“Looks like a camping trip is on the cards to this glorious spot when the weather gets a tad warmer,” he said, indicating the group is keen to extend the trips in future.

The merry contingent continued on its way around Keppel with the breeze turning into wind that made the trip back to Rosslyn Bay a bit ordinary.

“Four hours after we departed, we arrived back at the marina and loaded our skis on to their trailers and the sausage sizzle and drinks were all go,” said Harris.

The CQPWC gained five new members recently, he said.

Matt Bampton from Allstate Boat Licensing and Training has also joined the club, and is offering special deals to club members.

The next club trip is down for late July and looks like being an overnighter at 1770.

Anyone interested in joining the club can email cqpwc@ozemail.com.au or phone Brett on 0407 151 902 or Mark on 0408 739 485.
