LIBRARIES are a font of knowledge when it comes to battling the hard times.
Their shelves are full of tips to save money and improve your lot without too much pressure on the hip pocket.
And librarians at the Boyne Tannum library have just made it easier for people to access money-saving tips.
They have set up a display with an array of books designed to ease the recession anxiety.
“Libraries save you money because you don't have to buy books,” library assistant Kerry Moore said.
“We've got all sorts of material from how to grow your own food to easy renovations.
“There's everything from money guides to staying healthy.”
Of course specific titles are available that offer some lateral thinking on old questions.
The Upside of Down by Thomas Homer-Dixon offers the reader methods to beat disaster and turn the changes headed our way in the down times to our own advantage.
Ms Moore said books provided an endless supply of ideas and tips to help people cope.
“Of course if people want particular books we can order them through the State Library or access them from Gladstone,” she said.
