WHAT do a puppet theatre, stilt walkers, freshwater turtles and a fashion parade have in common?
Plenty if you plan on attending Ecofest 2009.
A huge line up of events, attractions and things to see and do have been organised as part of Gladstone Regional Council's World Environment Day initiative being held on May 31 at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens.
Celebrating its 11th year, this year's Ecofest will see the return of some popular regular features including special guest and unofficial Ecofest ambassador, Ranger Tim, who will entertain the crowd with interesting facts about native wildlife and climate change while promoting simple ways of reducing environmental impact.
Other popular crowd favourites will include the return of the crocodile, snake, wombat and bilby displays while a collection of freshwater turtles species will make their Ecofest debut this year.
Also new to the program will be the environmentally themed puppets and props of Krinkl Theatre and the strutting, loping and dancing stilt performers Manoeuvre.
Krinkl Theatre is set to captivate audiences between the fantasy of animated objects and the reality of recycled items through its presentation of 'Grass is Greener', a story which depicts Australia's past and changes in technology and the environment.
Children will also be given the opportunity to make a Brush Turkey puppet as featured in the show. The event's program will reflect the 2009 World Environment Day theme 'Your Planet needs YOU! UNite to combat climate change!'. A fashion parade featuring pre-loved clothing will be back by popular demand, so too the Get Active Zone.
Ecofest runs from 9am to 3pm.
