Chanel College’s Max Wayte plays in the U15 vs U16 futsal challenge

CHANEL College has dominated the inaugural inter-school futsal challenge winning all divisions in both, the girls' and boys', competitions.

The futsal competition involved teams from local high schools playing for the right to contest the 'champion of champions' event later this year.

The high school girls played on Wednesday while the boys played on Thursday at Gladstone's PCYC.

The schools event has previously been held in Rockhampton but the sports growing popularity has seen it come to the Harbour City for the first time.

The girls contested the U14 and U19 divisions with the Chanel girls winning both.

Chanel narrowly beat Tannum Sands High 4-3 in a highscoring affair in the U14 girls' final.

Another close match was the U19 final with Chanel defeating Toolooa 2-1.

The boys' competition on Thursday turned out to be an all-Chanel affair.

Fixtures were played for the U13 to U19 divisions, although the Chanel U15 team won as they were the only side to enter that category.

The U13 Chanel team faced off against Tannum Sands in the final and emerged with a 4-2 win.

The two teams competed in the U14 division as well, with Chanel 4-0 winners.

Tannum Sands and Chanel also played off in the U16 category, with the Tannum team just missing out at 3-2.

In the senior age group of the competition, the U19, Chanel easily accounted for Toolooa 3-0.

Competition organiser Gail Jasperson from CQ Futsal said the carnival was a “very huge success” considering it was the first time it had been held in Gladstone.
