Christmas spirits were not dampened

THE grass in front of the marina stage might have been damp, and a few thunderclouds were still threatening, but it did not significantly affect the attendance at this year's Carols by Candlelight event on Friday.

Eight-year-old David Tomas' family had the right idea they brought along a rubber mattress to sit on, and folded nearby was a beach parasol just in case it rained.

"I told mum to bring the umbrella so we won't miss Santa." he said.

But in the end, it was the fireworks he enjoyed most.

Organisers marked the night - this year presented by Bunnings Warehouse, Gladstone, Gladstone Ports Corporation, CQUniversity, Gladstone Region Council, Golding Contractors and 4CC - a complete success.

Christmas carols were presented by soloists, choirs and the Gladstone Municipal Band while the community singing was led by the Gladstone Carols Choir.
