Peter Parker is calling on the Gladstone community to get behind the GetUp Climate Relay this Sunday.

THE travelling Climate Torch Relay displaying the message 'halve Australia's Greenhouse Pollution by 2020' will cycle into Gladstone on Sunday morning.

On its way to Parliament House the GetUp Climate Torch Relay has been travelling around Australia spreading the awareness to communities of climate change issues and to urge the Federal Government to push ahead with the Carbon Trading Scheme.

The torch's journey to Gladstone will commence from Mt Larcom carried by cyclists from the Gladstone Cycle Club and will arrive at Spinnaker Park at lunch time on Sunday.

GetUp Torch Relay organiser for the Gladstone region Peter Parker said the aim of the relay is to see Australia take strong action so a healthy environment is left for future generations and there is still time for Gladstone's industries to become environmentally friendly.

"The Gladstone region has a significant impact to the environment due to the Aluminium industry here and we want to highlight to the local industry that a lot can still be done to reduce the impact our industry has on the community and the environment," he said.

Peter said he wants the community to get involved and support the relay by signing on and being apart of the relay on Sunday.

The Climate Torch was created by the designers of the Sydney Olympic Torch and features solar-power, a wind-turbine, people power and a lemon battery.
