IT'S THINKING like a working man that's kept Milton Coombs on top of the competition for 20 years.

The owner of Coombs Mechanical Repairs was told by a customer yesterday that he'd been voted Gladstone best mechanic, after The Observer posted to Facebook asking readers.

Not being as online savvy as he'd like, Mr Coombs didn't even know about the competition, so being told he made the top was good news to him.

"I thought it was great," he said.

"We always try and do the best we can with what we've got."

Mr Coombs said it's his honest policy that sets his business apart from the rest.

"You have to be honest in every aspect," he said.

"I'm an everyday person, I work for wages and if someone has to come in and get their car fixed or whatever, I think how they would think.

"You might work a week and earn $800, and need a $1000 job done on your car; but not everybody earns $2000 a week and can afford it.

"You have to think like a working man."

The tight knit business, includes Milton, four tradesmen and one apprentice.

"We all get along pretty well," he said.

"And that's part of providing a good service.

"We're always flat out here, it's been really good."

You'll find Milton and his team at 2 Walsh St, phone, 4976 9948.
