Name: Hayley Streeter

When did you start fishing? I grew up with dad being a commercial crabber and fisherman, thank god. We lived in Agnes Water so we had a lot of water then. Then we moved to Biloela because dad got a job out here and now we don't have as much water. We try and go fishing as much as possible but there aren't as many options out here. It's a good stress relief. It is good to get out there and it's a really calming thing to do. You don't need to be girly girl.

What's the best fish you have ever caught? My red emperor at last year's Boyne Tannum Hookup was 9.66kg. Our family are really into red emperors. It was my grandfather's favourite fish.

We even have a family trophy at the Hookup called the Allan Streeter Memorial Trophy for the biggest overall red emperor. I won one of the night fish competitions last year and have previously won the biggest red emperor back in juniors. That was good because that is the family trophy too. I play guitar and sing every year too. I'll jump up when the bands are having a break and have a jam.

What's your favourite bait? We generally gig for bait. We use heaps of little hooks on a rod. You let the line down and jerk it as you bring it back up. The line has multiple little hooks, little shiny things. Something attracts the bait fish to it.

Where is your favourite fishing spot? We have a place in Agnes and we fish out of Agnes. We will fish down there and then drive up for the Hookup to weigh in. Normally we go out on our boat the Paula Lee but this year we are going out on a mates boat called Al Mora.

When are you next out on the water? I will work most of Friday. I'll finish work at lunch time and running away straight to the Hookup. Six of our family will definitely come every year. We will have about 10 this year. The atmosphere there is always fun, never a dull moment.
