JENNIFER Egan and her fiance Sam Brown surprised their friends and family when they turned their son's naming ceremony into a wedding.
The couple invited everyone to five-month-old Braxton's naming ceremony at the Japanese Tea Gardens in the Tondoon Botanic Gardens on Saturday, July 25.
The couple wanted it to be low-key and with as little fuss as possible.
There was no bridal party, buck's or hen's nights and no headaches.
"It was a whole lot easier having a secret wedding and not having to stress about the finer details," Jennifer said.
They had been engaged for a year and a half and were more concerned about people finding out about the wedding than committing to a lifetime together.
"A couple of days before the wedding my best friends Jess Devlin and Emily Shepherd were discussing my wedding.
"Talking about how they would do this and that," Jennifer said.
"It was so hard not to give it away, but apparently they had no idea."
The only people who knew about the wedding were Jennifer's mother and father and Sam's mother.
"I had to tell my father the night before the wedding so he wasn't too shocked to walk me down the aisle," Jennifer said.
"He didn't believe me at first."
The couple both went to Calliope State School together, but only got to know each other when they worked together at Eagle Boys in Calliope.
"We're pretty laid-back and casual people and everyone said a surprise wedding suited us," she said.
Another surprise was Jennifer getting married with baby Braxton on her back.
