We need gear too: wildlife carer
WILDLIFE carer Jodi Jones doesn't understand why Gladstone Harbour is not in line for Federal Government funding for oil clean-up equipment.
"It's quite a concern because Gladstone is becoming more industrial each day," the Gladstone and District Wildlife Carers Association president said.
Jodi has attended to her fair share of environmental disasters since moving into the president's role in 2008.
The wildlife carer said Gladstone couldn't afford to go without a proper oil clean-up plan.
"I'm really quite surprised Gladstone wasn't listed," she said.
"Along with industry we have people and wildlife living in this region too."
Capricorn Conservation Council co-ordinator Michael McCabe said oil spill clean-up equipment was needed to protect the health of the Great Barrier Reef.
"Several other bulk ships have been caught taking short cuts through the GBR since 2010," Mr McCabe said.
