Watch: Tawny frogmouth enjoys a shower

GLADSTONE District Wildlife Carer Max Anderson only has a couple of months left with tawny frogmouth, Awesome.

Awesome is now in a condition where he could survive in the wild.

Max has cared for the frogmouth for 14 months, after Awesome came in to his care without feathers and undernourished.

He taught the frogmouth how to hunt, eat and fly.

"The longer you have them the more attached you get, even when you try not to," he said.

"It's sad to see them go but at the end of the day that's what we're here for, and you know you're doing the right thing when you release them."

>> Developments drive native wildlife out of their homes

Awesome eats insects such as moths and beetles, and rodents.

And the bird definitely seems to enjoy having a shower.

Tawny frogmouths are nocturnal birds found throughout Australia.

During the day, they perch on tree branches, often low down and camouflaged as part of the tree.

Dredging begins in Gladstone's port

Dredging the 2.3km Narrows crossing of the QCLNG and APLNG gas pipelines. The dredging involves a small backhoe dredge mounted on a barge, two tug boats, a survey vessel. After the pipelines are laid in the same trench, they will be covered with rock for protection from shipping and will still allow sufficient depth for boat traffic through The Narrows. BUOYS removed to make room for dredging operations.
