CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Coward punch on man dressed in blonde wig

UPDATE 5.30:

The Observer has obtained footage showing Hayden Baynton delivering the coward punch that felled a man at MIePLACE nightclub.

In the footage, the blonde wigged man's head flew back and he fell to the ground after Baynton delivers a blow.

It then appears that Baynton jumps on top of the victim.

In other footage, security escort Baynton out of the nightclub.

EARLIER:

A COWARDS punch thrown by a drunk Hayden Baynton struck so hard that it sent a man's long blonde wig flying off his head inside MIePLACE nightclub.

The man, in fancy dress, suffered facial injuries and a broken ankle when he was felled to the floor at the bar beside the dance floor.

Facing the consequences of his nasty one punch attack, Baynton was sentenced to six months jail by Gladstone magistrate Penelope Hay after the 19-year-old pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm to the man on June 28 last year.

The court heard that older men who Baynton had worked with on Curtis Island were partly blamed for leading the teenager into a drinking culture.

Ms Hay, after overnight consideration of all aspects of the case, ordered Baynton to be released immediately on supervised parole.

Baynton, a father of one, must not reoffend or he will be sent immediately to jail.

With his parents in the public gallery looking relieved at the decision, Baynton refused to comment on his nasty behaviour, or about what he thought of cowardly one punch assaults when he walked from the courthouse accompanied by partner Bianca Alexander and mates.

Police prosecuter Gavin Reece said the victim was at the bar in the club buying drinks and as he walked back to his table Bayton suddenly hit him with a closed fist which knocked him to the floor.

He received cuts and bruising around his left eye, nose and mouth, and a fractured ankle.

"There was no provocation and the victim said he had no recollection of the incident," Mr Reece said.

Here's how some of our social networkers reacted:

Josh McCracken Happens all the time, sucks they made an example out of you. Sorry to hear Hayden Baynton probs blown out of proportion and there'd be a reason behind your actions.

Olly Sturt media always make things out to be worse than it was. probably all ballshit.

Hannah Barber Sick of excuses when it comes to coward punches... Blaming older work mates cause this young one can't handle his grog... Friggin pathetic take responsibility for your own actions don't make excuses, cause excuses don't cut it with those who have lost loved ones due to cowards...

David Weir And once again the weak as water magistrate lets him walk free. Everyone in the country want tough penalties for coward punchers, except the judiciary. If he hits anyone while he's on parole he, and the magistrate, should both be imprisoned in my opinion.

Mary-anne Hoyten Our system is TOO SOFT!!!

Stephen Marshall The bottom line is if the person he hit died, then he would be going to jail end of story. Regardless of the reason for hitting the person one can think himself a lucky man. The fallout to this is if he offends again he knows the consequences ...

Ray Honeybone "There would be a reason" There is no reason.. Be a man and walk away. The young ones make all sorts of excuses for their actions. Lucky it's not any more serious.

Lorenzo Benedetto Should be mandatory jail time. Fighting doesn't solve anything and hitting someone in the back? Cowardly. And yeah it's not his fault 'the older guys from the island made me drink'

Keri Schneider Curtis Island seems to get the blame for everything

Brittnee Skye There would of been a reason for hayden to do something like this. Something would of happened probably just before it happened. The other guy probably antagonised hayden which led to a punch.

Lorenzo Benedetto Should be mandatory jail time. Fighting doesn't solve anything and hitting someone in the back? Cowardly. And yeah it's not his fault 'the older guys from the island made me drink'

Lauren Warner 19 and already have this on your record wow you're really going places.. just another reason why I don't go out in Gladstone no one is safe
