Magistrate fears Calliope is turning into the wild west
GLADSTONE Magistrate Russell Warfield is concerned Calliope night life is turning into the "wild west" after a punch-up at the Railway Hotel last month,
A fight involving 10 patrons drinking at the Railway Hotel in Calliope broke out at 7.40pm on January 24.
By the time the police were called all those involved had fled the scene.
Police returned to the pub on January 25 to watch CCTV footage of the fight.
They were able to identify Adam Robert Borradale as the one who started the brawl.
Later that day, Borradale returned to the hotel to apologise for his actions.
The 21-year-old appeared in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday, pleading guilty to one charge of public nuisance.
He told the court he was not proud of what he did and he simply had too much to drink.
Magistrate Russell Warfield said this kind of behaviour at any Gladstone venue would not be tolerated.
"It's not going to turn into the Wild West."
Borradale was banned from the Railway Hotel for six months and fined $750 with no conviction recorded.
