SUNDAY will see Remembrance Day services across the state take place.

Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War.

RSL Biloela branch President Rod Sharpe said he hopes people understand the meaning of Remembrance Day.

"Remembrance is a second opportunity in a year we have to think, remember and thank those who have made sacrifice for us," Rod said.

"It's a very, very important day but we should never ever switch off and be complacent.

"It is not about just remembering the 60,000 Australian's that died in World War 1 but to also embrace soldiers and anyone involved in any war since.

"Some people don't understand Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day as it was known about 10 years ago, recognizes the signing of the Peace Treaty at the end of the First World War."

Rod said the Biloela RSL were hoping to see more people attend the service, at 11:00am, this year as it is on a Sunday rather than through the week like previous years.

"I think there will be a lot more people than we have had in past years."

Rod said the branch had ordered a number of red poppies for the day and had already sold out.

"We ordered 100 and sold them so we have ordered another 100 but we are expecting that to be way short.

"A lot of people don't understand the significances of the poppies.

"The Armistice was signed in a railway carriage on Flanders Field which was filled with poppies."
