Police investigate after toddler dies near Emerald

AUTHORITIES are investigating the death of a toddler at an Orion property, 60km south of Emerald, after an incident on Sunday.

Queensland Police and ambulance services could provide few details.

At 8.50am on Sunday, an ambulance rushed the boy, 2, from an Old Orion Rd property to Springsure Hospital.

An RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue chopper was tasked to airlift the boy to Rockhampton, but was stood down after the boy died.

A police media spokeswoman said the boy had been in a critical condition when he was transported to Springsure.

It's believed a tractor reversed over the boy.
