This region is where great begins - so let's shout about it

WE are in one of the best spots in the world.

That's if you want to go explore parts of the Great Barrier Reef.

One of the best reef dive sites is right at our back door - at Heron Island - and Lady Musgrave has a great deal to offer as well.

So why don't we tell people about it? Shout from the rooftops and entice folk from south-east Queensland to take a road trip and find out for themselves.

That's exactly what a new campaign launched by tourism minister Jann Stuckey will hope to achieve.

We are in a unique place and it's great to see that the State Government has recognised this and provided the necessary funding for the promotion.

Tourism can most certainly be this region's saviour until the "next big thing" arrives and once construction slows on Curtis Island.

We all need to embrace the beauty of our region - and make sure that people from everywhere are well aware about what we have been hiding for years.

It's where great begins.
