Return of wallets shows we're an honest bunch

IT seems most Gladstone residents have Good Samaritan bones in their body.

One of our reporters dropped 10 wallets around the city last week to see how many would be returned. Eight were returned.

The Observer's honesty test sparked a number of people to share their lost and found stories on our Facebook page.

The majority of the comments had happy endings, and money still sitting in their wallets.

The unknown woman who handed in the wallet from the Calliope Shopping Centre female toilet block has been identified as Lisa from Ubobo.

She said her first instinct when she saw the wallet was to hand it in.

"At first I thought it was a boy's wallet that had been stolen because it was strange it was in female toilets," she said.

"I was on my way to Rocky so I handed it in next door at Elders Real Estate."

She knew there was something suspicious about the wallet when the typical contents were missing.

"There was no ID and nearly everyone would have a licence," she said.

"Plus who puts a phone number in their wallet like that?"

Lisa said she hasn't come across a stray wallet in a few years but would always ensure it was returned to its owner.
