Neighbourhood spat lands man in custody, court

A NEIGHBOURHOOD dispute between two South Gladstone residents landed Graeme Peter Warde in custody at the weekend.

The 36-year-old Ward Close resident appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court via telephone link yesterday morning charged with one count each of trespass - entering or remaining in dwelling or yard and threatening violence - discharge firearms or other act.

The court heard that on Friday, December 18, Warde allegedly made violent threats, from the backyard of his home, against a man.

Warde's defence lawyer told the court that he had back access to a neighbour's property and had an agreement with his neighbour that he could walk through his property.

"Mr Warde was collecting wood to cook mud crabs when he was verbally attacked while walking home," the lawyer told the court.

"He ignored the comments and kept walking," the defence claimed.

"Mr Warde was chased back to his property and the whole scenario was twisted against him."

Magistrate Mark Morrow concurred it was a case of "word against word" between the two neighbours and granted Warde bail on the condition he report to police every week.

The matter was adjourned to a later date.
