Sinking cemetery investigation

Gladstone Regional Council's Parks and Conservation department will conduct investigative soil testing in Section S of the Port Curtis Lawn Cemetery starting Wednesday, for about  two days (weather permitting).

Council's Director Environment and Recreation Leisa Dowling said the soil testing would take place to determine the cause of ongoing sinkage issues at the cemetery during heavy rainfalls.

"The soil sample will result in a detailed engineer's report and will determine a course of action to rectify the problem," Ms Dowling said.

Ms Dowling advised that grave sites would not be disturbed during the testing process.

Section S is the new area of the cemetery located on the eastern side of the access road.
