FROM pub rock to The Ten Tenors - Luke Kennedy has enough musical versatility to fill a football stadium.

The 30-year-old has travelled the world with his music career and this year took another step forward by finishing runner-up on The Voice Australia.

"I am always looking to improve and do the next thing - I guess The Voice offered that," Luke said.

"It seems like the sort of show for emerging artists and they certainly don't look to set anyone up to fail."

Luke said there had been about 2.1 million viewers every night watching The Voice.

"I could never fathom how many people I was performing to every single night."

While most contestants had their own hopes and anticipations - Luke said all his expectations lived up to real life.

Show fans embraced the tenor with open arms and now Luke is set to tour Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria with his live band for the first time.

"I'm definitely looking forward to road testing some of that new material," he said in relation to his recently released album A Time For Us.

In the meantime, Luke often finds himself in spontaneous situations where the limelight just seems to call him to the stage.

Whilst pre-visiting Gladstone last Friday, a random encounter at Rumour Has It: Sixty Minutes Inside Adele saw Luke  back on stage with friend, Naomi Price.

The well-known performance, from Little Red Company creators Adam Brunes and singer Naomi Price, was based on the life of world famous celebrity Adele.

Surprisingly, Luke said when the show gave its inaugural performance he was one of the two singers backing Naomi in her role as Adele.

"I wrote all the backing vocals," he admitted. "And if ever I'm at an Adele show I understand there may be a chance I get called up.

"The last time Naomi dragged me up was April."

While he acknowledged it was a random occurrence - Luke's backing vocals were simply breathtaking.

And the soft, precise sound of his strong tenor voice was perfectly pitched - allowing the audience to marvel at the artist's skill.

"That was a bit of fun," he said simply.

"I started playing in a band when I was 16. Just to give me a musical outlet."

But unbeknown to him - that musical outlet was calling him to far greater heights.

"It was a major learning curve to try and do that. Not only the music side but also just being a teenager."

After trying his hand in the band scene for eight years, performing three to four times a week, Luke joined The Ten Tenors in 2008.

His new found purpose then saw him travel the world from Spain, Switzerland, Mexico, Peru, Germany, South Korea, America, New Zealand, France and much more.

"I loved Norway," he said when asked for his favourite destination.

"Everybody there was beautiful and there was gorgeous countryside.

"The first time I went there they said they got a week of summer every four years."

But while his time with The Ten Tenors was memorable, it soon came time for Luke to face his next adventure.

"I was looking for new challenges and a way to advance my solo career," he said before auditioning on The Voice Australia.

After amazing the judges and audience, Luke received the thumbs up from celebrity coach, Ricky Martin.

"He was incredible," Luke said in describing Ricky.

"A family man - a genuine, warm guy who has obviously been through a lot in his life."

Luke said Ricky, a man he would now call inspirational, has been a celebrity since he was only 12.

"He really is the South American Michael Jackson."

Luke said he is set to tour with Ricky in the next few weeks.

"Mostly what we talked about in the early days was the music - we only had a small amount of time to get stuff done.

"We're both very hard workers and that's something we definitely jelled on early."

And with a small two and a half-year-old daughter of his own Luke could certainly relate to Ricky's own fatherhood adventures.

"She's obviously been to see me perform but having her on the road with me at her age would be a little tough on her," he said about his little girl.

While Luke's future is now a world of endless opportunity, he said The Voice was an experience he will cherish.

"The boost that The Voice offered me it will be immeasurable in years to come."

"That final episode - performing with Ricky Martin - and standing up as one of the final two - those memories are going to be pretty vivid in my mind for a long time."
