Simple things bring a smile to injured Abi's face

HAVING her dad cut out the back of her favourite dresses so she can wear them in hospital is enough to make Abi Wilkinson smile.

Each day, hearing of a new source of financial support brings a smile to the rest of the family.

Abi was seriously injured in a car accident on April 4. She remains in a Brisbane hospital, unable to move.

An online fundraising website has raised $17,000 in 17 days. On Wednesday, Sea FM collected $1893.50 from Boyne Tannum to Gladstone.

The local radio station pledged to continue fundraising for as long as it took.

A broadcast and fundraising call-out on Sea FM has led to a listener organising another event.

On May 3, Rockhampton and CQ Car Club will come together for a Dyno Day and show and shine event hosted by Insane Performance.

Organiser Chris Roy said the plight of the Wilkinson family struck a chord.

"I have a three-year-old," he said. "I know how I'd feel."

The event will be held at 48 Knight St, Rockhampton, with 100% of funds raised going to the cause. No donation is too small.

"The car club will run the show and shine and we request a $10 donation to the cause," Mr Roy said.
