Shops open soon
A HUGE new shopping centre on Kirkwood Rd is ready to open.
A Woolworths representative yesterday confirmed the company's new centre in Kirkwood would open for business next Wednesday, April 18.
Local politicians turned the first sod for the project in June last year, saying it would be a vital piece of infrastructure as the population expanded in that part of Gladstone.
The new centre will comprise a 3200m sq Woolworths store, as well as 10-15 specialty stores.
When open for business, the Woolworths store will employ about 300 staff.
Six hundred contractors and subcontractors were involved in construction of the new shopping centre.
