A GLADSTONE region woman was thrilled to snap a selfie with Justin Bieber in the background as she attended the Hillsong church conference in Sydney on Wednesday.

Ruth Geck, of Seventeen Seventy, is at the annual Hillsong music conference with family and friends.

She said Bieber had been attending the conference over the past couple of days.

"There are about 30,000-50,000 people attending for five days, going for direction in their lives and to listen to inspiring talks and music," Ms Geck said.

The Daily Mail reports Bieber is friends with Joel Houston, son of church founder Brian Houston, and Joel's Brazilian model wife Esther Lima.

Hillsong Church is a Christian movement that in fewer than 20 years has grown from humble beginnings in Sydney to a multi-million dollar global phenomenon whose services attract rock concert-sized crowds every week.

Bieber attracted attention on Wednesday for wearing a Marilyn Manson Antichrist t-shirt to the conference.

A statement from Hillsong Church read: "People come from across the world to Sydney each year to attend Hillsong Conference. Justin is here - like tens of thousands of others - as a delegate who is seeking to build stronger foundations into his life.

"He is not participating in the conference in any other capacity. Out of respect for his privacy we will not be making further comments."

Hillsong Church also owns a multi-million dollar music label. Up until 2011 it had sold more than 12 million records and released more than 50 albums.

Bieber has shared on his Instagram account (@justinbieber) that his relationship with God is actually the "coolest thing" he has ever experienced.
