UPDATE 2.51pm:

IN A STATEMENT released by Queensland police, it said Operation North Oxbow had come to a close, confirming five people had been charged with drug offences, and 38 arrests were made during the eight month operation.

Police seized rifles, shortened pistols, tasers, a BB gun and pen guns and knuckle dusters.

"Operation North Oxbow commenced in June 2015 by officers from Gladstone CIB, Organised Crime Investigation Unit (State Crime Command) and Tannum Sands police. The operation primarily focused on a syndicate involved in the distribution of ice within the local area," the statement read.

"Over the last two days police from the Organised Crime Investigation Unit in partnership with police from Gladstone, Rockhampton, Tannum Sands and Calliope stations and officers from the Australian Border Force executed search warrants in and around the Gladstone and Tannum Sands area.

"In total police executed 12 search warrants, resulting in the arrest of 12 persons on 48 drug related charges (five of which were charged with trafficking in Methamphetamine and Cannabis). One person was also charged with supplying drugs to a minor and using a carriage service to procure a minor," it said.

Police also located 12 firearms, four tasers, 57 grams of Ice, 100 grams of Cannabis, 34 Cannabis plants, $12,390 in cash, $700 in counterfeit cash and a large amount of property suspected of being stolen.

"The targeting of those individuals who are involved in the sale of Ice into our communities remains one of our highest priorities," Detective Superintendent Jon Wacker of the Drug and Serious Crime Group stated.

"This is a battle we must continue to fight to ensure the protection of our communities."

UPDATE 2.10pm:

POLICE executed a further eight raids across the region early this morning. It is understood the raids were on secondary targets, thought to primarily be users of the drug ice, rather than suppliers necessarily.

Among the items found were weapons buried in a backyard, including a crossbow and rifle.

The raids were part of an operation targeting drug trafficking in the Gladstone region that has been dubbed Operation North Oxbow.

An eight month police investigation which has involved officers from a special state organised crime unit from Brisbane has seen 38 people arrested on 117 drug and firearm related offences in the Gladstone and Tannum Sands region.

Only five people have been charged.

Despite the raids, Detective Inspector Lance Vercoe said he doesn't think these raids will "break the back" of drug supply in the region.

"The investigation over that eight months identified a syndicate operating in the Gladstone and Tannum Sands area by two men," Det Insp Vercoe said.

"The drugs came from what we would call mid-level dealers…but there was certainly a supply network in place," he said.

"None were associated with bikie gangs but that's not to say they weren't on the periphery."

In the last two days police have arrested 12 people in raids on 12 houses where police will allege they found seven firearms and four tasers hidden inside wall cavities at the address on Latrobe St, Tannum Sands.

Police set up two crime scenes on Latrobe St and Tannum Sands Rd yesterday.

What we know about Operation North Oxbow:

- 38 people have been arrested on 117 charges.
