Charged after pretending to snooze

IT'S not every day someone attempts to snooze through an arrest.

This is the situation police had to deal with on May 12 when called to remove a sleeping man from a Gladstone resident's porch.

The owners of the George Street dwelling discovered Andrew David Cole fast asleep on their front veranda in the early hours of the morning.

He was a stranger to them.

After being asked to leave, Cole became abusive and began punching and kicking at the front door.

When police arrived Cole pretended to sleep through his arrest.

He ignored police orders and refused to stand up, until eventually he was physically removed.

Cole pleaded guilty to the offence in Gladstone Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Magistrate Russell Warfield had sympathy for the residents.

"They don't know what your intentions are or what you're capable of," he said.

Cole was convicted and fined $750.
