Police sweat overtime to control idiots in Gladstone CBD
A QUICK read of today's story about the number of night-time arrests in Gladstone will give readers an idea of what our police officers have to put up with every weekend.
And it's not pretty.
No doubt there are more unruly patrons of the various drinking establishments in our city being detected these days, because there are more police on the beat in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings.
And the reason there are more police on the beat is because of the proactive stance taken by the LNG companies that have helped provide extra funds to help curb a lot of the disorder these days, committed in some cases by people who are working on gas projects.
This is an admirable stance for the companies to take, but the bigger issue is that it shouldn't be necessary.
Our police officers work their butts off, and they are called on to do extra shifts to control the idiots in the early hours each weekend.
Just think, if people valued themselves more, there would be no need for the extra patrols.
