Woman in court for driving disability scooter while drunk

A WOMAN with a disability faced Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday for driving her motorised scooter while under the influence.

The court heard Tania Marie Boardman had knocked back several vodka cruisers, beers and wine at a friend's house before she left to go home.

The scooter rider's state of intoxication was clearly evident to passing motorists, who called the police.

As she rode down Short St in Gladstone, Boardman could no longer keep herself upright and took a tumble.

When the police arrived, they noticed Boardman's eyes were bloodshot and she was slurring her speech.

The 43-year-old recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.069%.

Magistrate Brian Kucks issued her with a $300 fine and recorded a conviction.
