UPDATE MONDAY: Several calls were made to police on Saturday night about a man armed with an axe making threats in New Auckland.

A 46-year-old Gladstone man is due to appear in Gladstone Magistrate's Court today charged with going armed to cause fear, three counts of serious assault of police and one count of contravening a direction.

In court today police will allege they were confronted by the armed man who was standing in the middle of Sandpiper Avenue around 7.40pm on Saturday.

The man immediately approached police officers, wielding the axe and threatening them.

The man refused requests to disarm and a taser was deployed.

The barbs lodged in the man's clothing, failing to halt him and he reportedly continued towards police, threatening them.

A taser was deployed again, this time resulting in the man falling to the ground.

Moments later, police said, the man started to rise and police struggled with him before being able to subdue and handcuff him.

The man was taken into custody.

He also faces three counts of serious assault police and one count of contravene a direction.

SATURDAY: Police have confirmed they tasered a man who was reported to have been armed and threatening people earlier this evening.

Ambulance officers have attended to the man at the Sandpiper Ave address in New Auckland.

The man was put in an ambulance in handcuffs, accompanied by a police officer. His condition is unknown.
