ABBA night turns violent as dancing queen lashes out

A GIRLS' spat at Gladstone Yacht Club during its ABBA disco night spun into the courtroom for a Tannum Sands businesswoman after she whacked a woman twice in the face.

The incident stemmed from some poor table etiquette after some hip shoves done to the chair of a seated woman turned awry.

"It certainly got a little out of hand," magistrate Mark Morrow told 62-year-old Roslyn Frost after she pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman at the club on Friday, September 18.

Police prosecutor Snr Const Sam Pyke said the assault happened at 6.45pm when a woman seated at a table with friends felt the back of her chair being shoved twice by Frost who was going past her table.

When the woman told Frost to just say "excuse me" if she wanted to get past, Frost did not reply.

Snr Const Pyke said that as Frost returned to her own table and walked by "she again shoved her (woman's) chair with her hips causing it to lift upwards".

He said this pushed the seated woman against her table and caused drinks to spill.

He said the woman then saw Frost swing her left arm and "two quick blows" struck her face and upper jaw causing her to feel pain.

Snr Const Pyke said Frost later denied delivering the blows, instead saying she felt threatened by the other woman who she thought was going to punch her.

However, when police looked at CCTV the footage showed what did occur.

Defence lawyer Jun Pepito said Frost works in retail and went to the club that night with her husband.

He said she accepted responsibility but sought that a conviction not be recorded against her because it was Frost's first criminal offence.

Mr Morrow fined Frost $300 and did not record the conviction.

"Thank you," Frost said as she left the courtroom with her husband.
