MORE than four hours of negotiations took place at a Gladstone residence early this morning after a man barricaded himself in the bathroom and was threatening self-harm.

Inspector Les Bulluss from Gladstone Police Station said they were called to the property at 5.15am to find the 21-year-old Gladstone man in the bathroom armed with a knife.

The negotiators were then phoned in.

"At 9.30 he surrendered to us without incident," Inspector Bulluss said.

It is believed the house the man was in was his girlfriend's house.

Inspector Bulluss said the man would appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court at a later date in breach of a domestic violence order.
