Drunk, hungry man walks to drive-thru window, attacks staff

DRUNK and with an empty belly suffering with a dose of the late night munchies at 2am , Taihaere Morrell did a walk-by in the drive-through at Hungry Jack's.

He was over five times the legal alcohol limit (to drive) when he walked up to the fast food window to give his burger order.

Appearing in the dock at Gladstone Magistrates Court, Morrell, 43, a scaffolder, pleaded guilty to assaulting a female staff member in a public place at 2am on August 13 when adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, and assaulting a male staff member when adversely affected (with a blood/alcohol reading of .275).

Police prosecutor Nina Sulzer said after Morrell walked up to the drive-through window and placed his order, work crew minutes later could not find him.

One male crew unlocked the front door to look for him when Morrell suddenly walked up aggressively wanting to know where his food was.

Ms Sulzer said he gained entry inside and raised a clenched fist, pulling his right arm back two or three times in punching motions.

This act caused the crew member to put an arm up in front of his face to protect himself then retreat to the kitchen area.

A female store manager intervened and Morrell began yelling at her "where is my food".

Ms Sulzer said when the young woman stood in front of Morrell to stop him from following the crew he had used both hands to push her in the chest causing her to stumble backwards.

Police said Morrell was very heavily intoxicated.

Magistrate Jason Schubert ordered him to complete 50 hours of unpaid community service work, telling Morrell not to drink if he can't control his behaviour.
