Man evicted from hotel threatened to shoot staff

MOST people go to a bar to do shots, not fire them.

Charles Darren Currie pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to singular counts of being creating disturbances and refused entry to licensed premises.

The court heard Currie had threatened to shoot security staff upon his return to the Grand Hotel at about 11.50pm on May 23 after being removed about 20 minutes earlier for being intoxicated.

Currie was restrained by staff until police arrived.

Representing himself in court, Currie told Magistrate Mark Morrow he didn't remember saying that he was going to shoot anybody.

"I'd probably say I'd try and knock them out," Currie offered up to the court.

He said he did not remember being asked to leave the premises by security staff.

He told Mr Morrow that he would have been guilty of intoxication but he had no way of proving his claims, among which were that security staff had struck him in the back of the head.

Mr Morrow convicted Currie, fined him a total of $750 for both offences and banned him from the Grand Hotel for six months.
