A 51-year-old male has been arrested in Gladstone  following the bashing of two dogs on Sunday afternoon.

The two dogs were found malnourished with life-threatening injuries off Gladstone-Monto Rd in Calliope.

A third dog was later found dead in the same area.

Injuries indicate the dog died after being beaten.

This afternoon the Gladstone man turned himself into the Gladstone police station as a result of vigorous police inquiries.

A spokesperson for the Gladstone police thanked members of Gladstone community for their assistance.

"It is due to the assistance of several community members we were able to gain an early response to this matter," he said.

The accused will appear in Gladstone Magistrate Court on June 12.
