Long ride for cancer research after loss of father

FORTY thousand kilometres is no small feat.

But Gladstone resident Chris Ryan and friend Jimmy Leahey-Butler will travel from Argentina to Alaska on just two wheels each.

On July 20 they will embark upon a six-month journey on their motorbikes to raise money for brain cancer research foundation, Cure for Life.

Chris's dad died after battling a brain tumour five years ago.

"We want to find out more and contribute to those who know best."

They are currently searching for more corporate and local business sponsorship.

"All of the money and sponsorship is solely for the donations," Chris said.

"We already have $7000. Everything will go straight to the charity."

They are hoping to raise $20,000.

The 26-year-olds have been friends since they were five.

They grew up in Canberra, and Jimmy now lives in the Sunshine Coast, while Chris has been working in Gladstone as a plumber for the past 12 months.

They have been organising this venture for the past year.
