Long-lost friends meet up for drug swap

IT was a catch-up between "long lost friends" that had a bit more of an agenda other than reminiscence about the good times past.

Instead two Gladstone women swapped the drug ice for antihistamine pills.

Prosecutor Sen Const Sam Pyke told Gladstone Magistrates Court police had identified Julie Seage as being a person who had been supplied with a drug, during an investigation into a Gladstone drug distribution network.

He said Seage, 31, went to a house on Penda Ave and gave a woman there a box of Telfast Gold - an antihistamine for hayfever.

Seage in return received 0.1 gram of ice.

Seage pleaded guilty to possession of a dangerous drug methylamphetamine on January 9.

Defence lawyer Jun Pepito said she had gone to meet her "long lost friend" who she had not see for 12 years, and this meeting had now placed her before the court.

"It's just one of those things that happened. I haven't spoken to her again," Seage said.

Magistrate Jeffrey Clarke fined Seage $500, warning her that she was now on the police radar.

He said to consider herself lucky because although she had had a schedule 1 drug, he would not record a conviction.
