Kiwi tears up, bailed to sister over second charge in weeks

TEARFUL Kiwi national Daniel Te Kapua Hare, arrested twice within weeks over an alleged violent home invasion and again for an alleged drug offence, has again been granted bail.

This time Hare, 29, will have to stay in the care of his sister or mother who intend to live in Gladstone while his court matters are dealt with.

When magistrate Mark Morrow asked Hare's sister, who flew in from New Zealand, if she and her mother could control him, she said yes.

He warned Lee Hare that her brother was in quite a bit of trouble and had shown a disregard to court orders.

"You've disappointed me already. I would hate you to disappoint your family, your sister, your mother, that would be very disrespectful," Mr Morrow told Hare via videolink.

"You've got him, don't let him go," he told his sister.

An emotional Hare constantly wiped away tears with prison-issue tissues and made no comment. Hare was put on a curfew to be home between 7pm and 7am, and must report daily to Gladstone police.
