THERE'S a shiny new boat on the water and it goes by the name of Jack.

QGC Pty Ltd has invested an additional $142,500 in its partnership with the Port Curtis Sailing Club for a new race-start vessel, which it handed over last Sunday.

The vessel, named after long-serving Gladstone sailing identity Jack Mortensen, will replace the sailing club's previous start vessel, Toot, which had been in service for 60 years.

"Our partnership with the sailing club is part of QGC's Social Impact Management Plan to manage social impacts and maximise benefits from the LNG project," said QGC vice-president sustainability Brett Smith.

The $150m plan is designed to address potential impacts from the project.
