HOMELESSNESS in Queensland is now a problem for almost 20,000 people with 105,000 affected across the country.

Bundaberg Regional Council is one of a number of agencies that sits on the Bundaberg Housing and Homelessness Forum which addresses issues relating to the homeless.

Council Community Services portfolio spokeswoman Judy Peters said a community information session would be held at the CBD pavilion tomorrow from 10am-2pm.

"There will be a couch, the Chattin' Couch, set up for people to come along and have a relaxed discussion with homeless service providers to talk through issues pertinent to the individual or to address some of the myths that exist about the homeless," Cr Peters said.

She said the initiative was part of tomorrow's Youth Homelessness Matters Day.

"It is an extremely disturbing statistic that of the homeless in Queensland more than 3400 are under the age of 12 years while the 12 to 18 years age group accounts for a further 2000 people," Cr Peters said.

"This is very much a hidden issue and one that the community needs to confront and address.

"It is often said that we must see homelessness as more than houselessness."

The Bundaberg Housing and Homelessness Forum has been selected as a finalist in the  2013 National

Homelessness Services Achievement Awards to be announced on May 1 in Melbourne.

The forum created an easy-to-read homelessness flow chart that is a valuable for homeless people needing to access agency support services.
